Blakedown Church of England Primary School
History
As historians, our children at Blakedown CE Primary School will achieve a coherent knowledge and understanding of the past within our own locality, our country and the wider world.
Our history curriculum teaches children about the complexity of peoples’ lives, the diversity of societies and the relationships between different groups of people in the past. Through enquiry, our children not only build subject knowledge and understanding but become increasingly adept at critical thinking, the use of specialised vocabulary and their grasp of subject concepts.
We aim to show children how individuals have helped shape our world and how they too can shape the world of tomorrow through their achievements. For this reason, it is our ambition for children to leave Blakedown CE Primary School with a love of history which will serve them throughout their lifetime.
As Dorothy West said, “There is no life that does not contribute to history.”
